I think recovery from anything is honestly the most BADASS thing a person can do.

“Free Online Calorie Counter! Register Today!”

thedisorderedlife:

You tagged this as #recovery. Counting calories merely informs somebody how much they’re intaking (and yes whether you’re gaining or losing weight), I tracked calories when I first started having intestinal problems because otherwise I’d eat too little (you know..so there’d be less poop). As a happy fat kid I’d track and I’d often go over. Counting calories is not something only anorexics do, it’s not a bad thing. Even those who don’t care about their weight (it’ll be more likely to fluctuate if you don’t track) should track for at least one year out of their lives to learn how much their bodies need to maintain and what triggers them to eat too little or too much, and whether you have a metabolic/digestive/health issue. Heck, tracking calories helps me eat LESS disorderly. Tracking calories is not a bad thing. It only contributes to disordered thoughts and eating patterns if you have an eating disorder. Athletes track calories, fat people track calories, thin people track calories, it doesn’t cause anorexia jeez. But if you don’t want to track calories just because that’s cool. It shouldn’t be associated with EDs as closely as it is tho. Anyways how about saying its okay to be fat instead. For the record I don’t always count calories during times in my life where I’m not very fit and therefore don’t care if I fluctuate.

I’m in recovery. And the post was meant as comment on diet culture (similar to those ‘Five foods to lose belly fat!’ ads), and how when one is dealing with recovery, it can be helpful to give that culture a giant middle finger.

Yes, some folks count as part of their meal plan. But not because some ad shouted at them to.

I tagged it ‘recovery’ intending it for folks in recovery, not because this is the only thing calorie counting is relevant to.
